The Geforce 2/4 MX cards support vertex shading in software as they are
DX7-based cards.. Hardware-based vertex-shading is in the Geforce 3/4 Ti and
newer cards.

Are you refering to the vertex processors inside the GPU?
One can only use one shader of each type in one primitive.
