Tristan,
Depending on what your ultimate goal in the game industry is you will want to
make a determination on the direction of degree you will pursue.
Game Art and Design (see aii.edu) programs offered at The Art Institutes
prepare graduates to pursue opportunities in production game art and game
design from the concept level. The emphasis is on art production.
Visual and Game Programming (see aii.edu) programs offered through the Art
Institutes prepares students to work with artists and hardcore programmers in
developing game interaction and play. The emphasis is on player interaction,
scripting effects to art and assets, and communication.
Schools often intertwine lexicon such as Game Design, Game Development, and
Game Production. The key to a schools program is the emphasis of their
coursework. The Ai approach is to provide a degree that takes the student from
concept to completion and covers aspects of the game production pipeline from
game concept to art creation, to level design, and player interaction.
Best wishes to you in becoming a future game design professional. If there are
any questions that I may address for you, feel free to contact me.
