I usually play violent games to vent negative emotions - blowing stuff
up in Jagged Alliance helps me not need to blow stuff up in my front
yard.

As far as directly affecting games, I wonder how many game designs
were thought up because the designer was upset at something? GTA seems
like the wet dream of a chronic road rager, for example...
