I would imagine there isn't a .max importer for blender, I don't think the
max format is known enough to do that, also it contains far too much info
for most programs to bother with. Most either use a format max can export
to, such as 3ds/ase etc, or have a plugin for max to export to a custom file
format.
Im not 100% on this as I haven't really used blender much but that would be
my first thought.

How can I import .max files in blender?
The import/export plugin I found seems to work with .3ds only. Or am I
making a mistake? Can you point me somebody to a link where I can
download a .max importer?
