The XNA kit released is a proper development kit, which I believe
comes with a special version of the Torque game engine. So no fuzzy
Click'N'Create app, you do real programming and make proper games.
As I understand it you can download the kit to make Windows games for
free, then if you want to also run your game on an XBOX 360 you pay a
subscription fee, which is about $100 a year.
It does look pretty interesting, I'll be downloading a copy tonight
and may comment here on my initial experiences with it :)

Hello GameProgrammers,
I thought I would start a topic discussion on development tools.
With the new XNA development download out by Microsoft, suggesting hobbyist
and individuals to create video games on their own. If the games are good
(based on popularity) then it is possible other gamers can download the game
on the XBOX-360. Is this another Click-and-create-a-game software that
teaches people you don't have to learn any programming to create crappy
games or is this an actual tool that Microsoft is providing for free?
Likewise on this topic, what development kits are popular and valuable tools
in creating games of today? What tools do you like to use in creating your
games? For 3D Modeling I heard 3D Studio Max was a powerful tool, what do
you think?
Thanks for the thoughts,
Draven
