Sounds very interesting and ambitious.
My only suggestion would be to move more of the application client-side,
perhaps with a platform-independant scripting language so the client
could control more of the program thus reducing the amount of network
traffic needed. From what I understand of your description the server is
doing pretty much all the control and the client is just drawing what
it's being told to. Don't ask me about how to implement the scripting
stuff, it's just an idea :)
