Yes I have heard good things about Irrlicht also. I imagine it is a bit more newbie friendly.
We found that the Ogre forums/wiki/book were helpful in getting up and running, if you want to look into that.

well, IMHO Ogre3D is NOT the easiest newbie engine, quite the opposite -- very hard to get started, more than a days worth of installation/configuration.

easier is Irrlicht, it is quite featurerich too but not THAT feature rich, and really simple to get started. i was rendering my first "cube" within an hour ...
