[gameprogrammer] Re: PC game Outsourcing

"Sooner or later cause and effect will balance out.
Outsourcing jobs from the US to cheaper countries will
result in unemployed Americans who wont be able to afford
the cheaper product. It doesn't matter how
cheap/inexpensive/etc... the product is. As unemployed
American workers, IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD IT YOU AINT GOING TO
BUY IT!!!"

You are forgetting the flip side of "...cause and effect will balance out..."
Yes, we lose some jobs to another country. But think of what the people in
those countries can now afford. A generation ago they might have earned a few
dollars a week and couldn't have bought internationally made goods. Now they
earn enought to buy cars, modern appliances, technological devices, etc. Some
of those goods will be made in America. Yes, outsourcing acts as a brake on
wage increases in our country (a benefit is that it helps keep inflation and
interest rates low) but outsourcing also accelerates wage growth in the
recipient country.

Personally, I think because of our committment to free markets and the
foresight of the Founders, Americans are best suited to innovation, creation
and risk taking. Why not leave mass production to others? Anything that can be
commoditized will eventually fall prey to commodity pricing--a silicon chip is
eventually no different than a barrel of oil or a bushel of wheat. Innovation,
knowledge, research, invention and risk are where the money is. But even those
don't offer guarantees. Probably the first rule any of us should learn in life
is this--there are no guarantees--no matter how hard you work. However, you can
signigicantly push the odds in your favor. At any rate don't despair, just keep
on keeping on.
