Hello !

I think it's time to give a french point of view.

In your first post you suppose that Germany, France or UK are cheaper to
make games. I think you are not right for this point. I think for the
problem you enlighten (job moving to foreigh countries) Western Europe
has the same problem as the US. You should know that we have a similar
economy model and thus the similar problems. In fact here, we are maybe
less concentrated on games but the problems are the same for the other
parts of software industry.

My point of view. Capitalism works this way : try to make more profits.
There have been years where we were enjoying this model, now that we
start to see its drawbacks (from our point of view, I am sure the
Indians starts to be happier) we should revolt, try to stop the
movement ? No, it does not seem possible. We must adapt. If you want to
support your economy, try to find where you are better than the others
and be the best (this sentence could be taken from Independence Day...
:) ). Don't be a coward and try to protect you. Where is your fighting
spirit ?

Now I should inform you about some point on Western Europe, and more
particularly on France where I live. Here in France a beginner engineer
earns around 30000$ a year. Maybe it is low for you, but you should know
that here with this salary hospital are free, as others medical cares
like the dentist. School is free until you are 18 and almost free after
(around 300$ per year). Here private schools are for the ones who must
buy their diploma... The salary is lower but it includes an insurance
for your retirement, and other social protections you may not have for
free, as an "unemployment insurance". Maybe if you substract all the
things that are free here and not elsewhere the salaries are not so
different... Don't blame me, I just describe the situation here in
France and don't know much about how it works in America. It's up to you
to describe it to me.

You are saying that everyone is "rich compared to other countries". If
being rich is what you describe, I think there is a lot of others
countries that are rich.

Concerning the low polution: we can at least say that the american
government has not a very clear position about the Kyoto protocol. G. W.
Bush has even said that this protocol is dead... You should remember
that the US is the country with the biggest emision of greenhouse gas...

To finish, I am not against America nor against Americans and I don't
want to start a flamewar. It has taken time to me to write this message.
Take it as a point of view.

Julien
