[gameprogrammer] Re: OTP: deleting porn

Try this http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4086
Its called CWShredder and gets rid of some of the stuff that spybot doesnt
clean up.
This worked for me once when all else had failed.

I used to work for PC-Cillin support and we had a boot disk (CD) we sent out
that had the latest definitions and Trend System cleaner on it.

I think we made it using something like this: http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/
but it was a few years ago now... This worked better than doing it from
windows or safe mode, in some cases safe mode wasn't even an option it was
pretty much swiss cheese by that stage.

You wish that was sufficient. Indeed, it helps a great deal, and I
recommend Adaware too, and some serious ("big name") virus scanner.
Note that the most important point with virus scanning is that the
database is up to date and properly managed! I'd recmommend staying
away from less known products, unless they're hooked to one of the
major virus databases. I'd also recommend something with some form of
sandboxed code analyzer, to stand a slightly better chance if you're
attacked by something not yet in the database.

Personally though, after the last few weeks of manual adware/malware
slaying on the Windoze boxen here, I'm seriously considering
investing in a heavy duty "live" virus scanning firewall, such as
this:
http://www.astaro.com/php/statics.php?action=asl&lang=gb#

(If anyone knows about similar better and/or lower cost solutions
without VPN and other stuff I don't need, I'm all ears.)

So far, I've never had a Linux machine compormized, but I don't intend
to wait around until it happens. And either way, I'm sick and tired
of wasting time and CPU power keeping those bl**dy Windoze machines
clean. The current situation is plain ridiculous, IMHO. Is MS pulling
our collective leg, or what!? :-/

Good point. It is important to realize that it is entirely possible
for a virus to hide the actual file system away from virus scanners,
so that they can't see or do anything after the virus is loaded!
Don't know about the state of things on Windows nowadays, but I've
seen it in action on the Amiga many years ago. Scary stuff...

Speaking of which; anyone know of a boot CD based virus scanner, or
something along the lines? Would be handier than moving drives around
to remove stuff that won't go away after booting...
