Part of the beauty and the risk of a player-controlled task and reward
system is that if the Generals are exploiting the workers, the workers will
be able to revolt, or can begin funneling resources to an enemy corporation
before defecting. Just as the followers need a leader, the leaders need
their followers...
As described, the game sounds like it would attract completely different
types of players. You'll need to have a strong base of
"instant-gratification twitch-kids" to handle the long hours of intense
action (shock troops, basically) - these will have to be kept entertained at
all times - just try to ignore the l33t talk. And you'll definately need a
good number of mature folks who don't mind, as Laurence described, hanging
around the HQ waiting for status reports. You'll attract a good number of
"builder" types who are more interested in infrastructure than intrigue, and
hopefully you'll have something for people like me, who like to play, but
don't have that many long stretches in which to get involved.
