[gameprogrammer] Re: Job market in Austin, TX

id software is near austin i believe, i heard they are looking for
programmers right now!

Bob Pendleton, owner of this list I believe is in texas as well but i
think he is in the acedemic side of making games, teaching it at a
college.

I've always heard there are 4 main gaming hubs in the US

* Southern California (LA / orange county)
* Middle California (san jose etc)
* Seattle, WA
* Austin tx

not sure if this info is still accurate but I heard that southern CA
and the Seattle area have the highest average sallaries,and that
Seattle has a low cost of living, but southern california of course
has a huge cost of living so IMO washington is the place to be.

I also heard that THQ recently closed a studio up there that employed
~75 people so in the immediate future the job market might be slightly
flooded, but THQ laid off aprox 200 people total so that may be a
slight industry wide flooding until they all get re-absorbed.
