[gameprogrammer] Re: Indy MMOG - How much to charge?

Another relatively recent trend, Kevin, is for a company to estimate the average life-time of a subscription, add a moderate percentage to that, coming up with the average subscription cost to one average gamer. This would then be used as a "Lifetime Subscription" option. I believe Turbine is doing this with at least one of their games, and I'm sure they're not pioneers in this matter...

Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing how you do! It's very exciting!! :)

Great, thanks to everyone for the advice. I can see:

1. Don't charge too little or people will think this is because your game is not good. 2. Don't charge full price or people will compare your price to WoW or other big games you can't compete against.
3. People tend to only play one MMOG at a time.
4. Offer a free version to draw in players.

So I think I will go with

Free version as a demo
$8,$7,$6 a month if you pay for 1 month, 3 months, or 6 months at a time.
