[gameprogrammer] Re: Getting your game played

i was thinking when my current project was done i would try and
advertise it on random places like saturday morning breakfast cereal

http://www.smbc-comics.com/

and other small "cult" internet sites (:

Hi all,

I was just wondering what people do here once they've finished their
games (assuming that ever happens!) to get people to play them. Do you
just setup the obligatory website, or do more? And how do you know if
you're game is being played by other people? And do you get much (any?)
feedback?

On a personal note, I normally set up a website, maybe some forums and a
wiki, and of course stick it on Sourceforge. I do find it frustrating
when I don't know how popular my game is, or if anyone has even played
it. That's why I now write client/server games, and host the server, so
I know when people are playing.

Cheers,

Steve
