[gameprogrammer] Re: Game programming book!

Actually sorry but the book you must buy from a local book store!!!

And, not surprisingly, to obtain a quality education on a given topic, yes, you must actually pay money! It's been that way for ages.

It sounds like you're biting off more than you can chew for this project with your friends. There is no such thing a "save algorhythm". That is probably the most simple part of the game making process, so if you're having trouble with that, you're going to be in hot water the whole time. My suggestion is to start with a small simple game, figure out the basics and work your way up.

I personally feel like this list is getting seriously annoying to read because of the constant replies like "But dude, you gotta pay for [this or that program or book]. lol!" We're happy to help someone with specific questions, but it is entirely impossible for us to help with the general questions you are asking. "How do I make a game in Blitz3D" is still just "How do I make a game?" - And you've been given plenty of very helpful suggestions for books to read. And yet, you are unwilling to even pay a few dollars for these high-quality texts that will probably *give you code* that you can use!Do you seriously expect us to write your code for you from scratch? Sorry, not a chance!

There are even plenty of free online tutorials on how to build a game generally, solve specific game-related coding issues, and every other topic to help you out - many of which have been linked to or suggested by various members of the list. Please USE them! After you have actually experimented enough to have an actual problem beyond general confusion, we will all be happy to help.

Sorry for the negative tone of my post - I usually enjoy reading this list, and it has become a real pain of late...
-Dave
