[gameprogrammer] Re: Game learning project of the month

I have an idea, either A. Take up the task of creating a new puzzle game, which
can be as easy or as difficult as you make it, or B. take an existing puzzle
game concept and re-create the game maybe with a fun new twist.

These types of games to me are the easiest to create, both graphically wise and
code-wise because once you finish the logic behind the puzzle the rest is just
setup display, setup input, Begin Menu Loop, display main menu, handle input,
end Menu Loop, Based On input selected, either start game, or display score
table, or exit game... If New Game then begin game loop, check input, handle
anything needs to be updated (pieces/score/lives/game status), then update
display, Reset Input status, end game loop. Outside game loop store final
score table, go back to Menu Loop, If Display score selected display score
table loop begin, show scores, handle input, end score table loop, go back to
Menu Loop, if Exit Game selected Free any and all resources, Exit Game System.
I hope this idea helps some people out that are trying to make a game for the
first time.

I know I appreciate this list for all its insightful suggestions, and help on
various topics.

Thanks,

Ken

The Linux Game Tome has a similar initiative, called Game of the Month
(GOTM). The idea is to take a game that is about to release a playable
version which has been delayed for some reason and push the work to
improve it and reach the release. But usually work takes more than a month.
