Any popular game that you can get the source code for. Now days there is
a huge variety of games that have public source code. Doom was a good
read, I would suggest anything by Carmack. SDL is a good read. I haven't
read the whole thing, just large parts of it. Any of the open source
game engines, crystal space for instance. 

Believe it or not, I learned Pascal by reading the original Pascal
compiler with the Norwegian comments. I don't read Norwegian... BTW, the
original Pascal compiler was written entirely in Pascal. It was never
written in any other language.
