[gameprogrammer] Re: Favorite Game

I have so many games that I love that are on different platforms. Let's
see...
To start off the list, the Space Quest series. To me, they all count as a
single game (because the story continues with each game). Then there are the
"So You Want To Be A Hero?" games. Ah, nostalgia... *sigh*

Coming into the Now, my favorite games include Fable (a little short, but
punting chickens is fun), Spider-Man 2 (who doesn't like to swing around New
York at high velocities?), and Battlefield 1942 and all of its expansions
(although I haven't played Vietnam yet).
With the mention of the Final Fantasy series, my favorite out of those is
FFIII (U.S. version). The opera bit with Celeste was just so moving.
Squaresoft sure knows how to make em.

In light of Half Life 2 coming out which will suposedly be the best game to
date (PC Gamer 98%). I'm curious to see what everyone's favorite game is. I
realize this is a "programming discussion group" but we're all game
programmers so I'm curious to see what the programmer's perspective is on
games. Mine personally is Morrowind because of the open-endedness and the
absorbing game play. The more true feeling of being your character. However
Half Life 2 is supposed to even compare to that with its explorable settings
and valve's aim to make the player feel exactly what the character is
probably feeling in game at the time. So first of all do you plan on getting
half life 2 and if not why, and what is your current favorite game.
