Yeah. Once SVG support gets into more browsers it looks like the
combination of SVG and AJAX will let you do some very nice games.
I'm looking forward to it.
Maybe we have an opportunity here. With Firefox and friends getting more
popular maybe web standards can be developed that let you do great games
in browsers.

"Modern" javascript games are already a
reality: http://www.smokymonkeys.com/triglav/ (only seems to work in IE at
the moment).
And even current plain html webgames could benefit greatly from Javascript
and XMLHTTPRequest. (I refuse to use the acronym :P). I see Javascript
games starting to take off next year (development lag time) and 2-3 years
from now I would imagine plain html web games to seem fairly
antiquated. Just the savings in efficiency alone should be enough to drive
current web games (ala planetarion) to a Javascript application model.
