[gameprogrammer] Re: 18 hours

I think this is a great idea, are you thinking of also doing an online
series of classes for this ? I would be more than happy to supply some
webspace and a dedicated set of forums just for this purpose. I have a
whole 2nd domain / website, not being used currently since I moved Pain
Killa Entertainment website over to pain-killa.com now, so painkilla.org
would be open if you would like to help clear the old forums out,
restructure for the class type setup, meaning questions and answers, extra
help, lessons, tests, answers, projects, etc..

Just a thought... Oh yea, on the note of a book to possibly use: I think
3D Game Engine Design is a great book, and I hear the author is making a 2nd
edition, the book walks you through creating a decent / high quality 3d game
engine, explains a lot of the principles, comes with the full sourcecode to
the finished engine wild magic currently at version 3.1, if you download the
updates from the website, and whats more the engine is cross platform
Direct3D and openGL, hardware accelerated renderer as well as the good old
almost obsolete software renderer now, really think he should cut this part
out, it has a lot of wasted code, and is not really necessary since most If
not all users today have at least a 64meg hardware accelerated 3D Card.

Anyways, I am excited about this, I actually am devoting my current and past
websites, not only to promoting and selling my current / past game releases,
but am also, trying to establish a one stop shop for assistance for all the
popular game / 3d type engines ex. 3Impact, DBPro, Blitz3D, Revolution3D,
3D Game Studio, Game Maker, Nuclear3D, Ogre3D. Also, I and some other
members of my team are working on writing helpful tutorial articles geared
towards modeling, 2D Texture design, 2D hud / menu designs, and also ideas
not found on other websites, such as useful workflows I have optimized to
make the most effective use of time, with the best results, using a set of
tools, and the steps both 2D art, and 3D Modeling and even level design go
through to put together the content needed from start to finish for a
commercial quality game.

Give us a look, I try to keep my project diary updated daily, although its
not always easy to do this, since I am wearing many hats, besides 2 - 2D
Artists, my brother assisting 3D modeling, Braxton - Level Design, Sammy -
Physics, help with coding, Ryan - Constructive / Destructive ?? Criticism
;') as well as ideas, and willingness to help us get the main game in front
of a well know publisher, if we can get the demo cranked out in time, which
now has become even more important with the start of a contest we are very
interested in, and want to do well, I think that will help seal the deal
with the publisher.

Anyways, I didn't mean to rant on like this, I just wanted to let you know I
am in, and am here to help you in anyway you need it. Just Holla.

Well, you're going to need to do at least one class of maths, I would
think, maybe more depending on the average level of the students. Eric
Lengyel's Maths for 3D Game Programming and Computer Graphics would be
good for this, although it might be better to have one overall book.

I found it easiest to learn this stuff with lots of practical examples.
What does this concept actually mean for programming? It's not so hard
to go back and fill in the gaps later, if you've got a basic
understanding of the concept and where it fits in.

I don't like Foley et al for learners. It's a really hard book,
honestly. Something simpler would be better - can't think of anything
off the top of my head though. Maybe one of the LaMothe books? They're
quite simply written.
