I don't know the answer to that question (for speed comparison).
My guess is that they are the same speed.

Functionally there is no difference between them in that they
convert pictures into binary strings. I included the MBS
functionality to allow for greater choice. Also under linux, the
Einhugur plugins rely on version 6 of the standard libraries which
can be a problem if you are developing for linux. MBS is more
flexible in this regard.
