Hi All

I am sharing the Free Software policy of our government.

https://www.google.co.in/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&ved=0ahUKEwiVgsG2-8fPAhWLOI8KHVYeC-sQFggiMAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fegovstandards.gov.in%2Fsites%2Fdefault%2Ffiles%2FPolicy%2520on%2520Adoption%2520of%2520Open%2520Source%2520Software%2520for%2520Government%2520of%2520India.pdf&usg=AFQjCNExE5AR7kSIfeHu1WcRnAVebLjlDA&sig2=U7cYYjbi8risTQnO8vV4xg&cad=rja

It is very clear that we should adopt Free Software tools where ever
possible. Still in most of our department, teachers are insisting to
use proprietary tools. Even they frame the syllabus and question paper
without vendor neutrality. There are departments who insists
absolutely obsolete tools like Turbo-C. I think we should raise a
voice against this. What you people think about this?

Some of the common proprietary tools which is being used include
ArcGIS, Matlab, LabView, 3Ds-Max, Photoshop etc. We should get a
circular at least control the unliseced copy of these software. In
most of the departments teacher thyself distribute the unlicensed
copies through their research scholar. So there must some repositories
for the department to control these distribution. They should also
provide facilities for the students to start using Free Software. We
already have signed an agreement between IIT Mumbai for  Free Software
training. But still it is only paper.
