After inspecting the i-Opener I powered it up put on a regular keyboard and
managed to get into the bios setup (ctrl-alt-esc rather than delete as the
bios splash screen says). It recognizes a hard drive and boots a linux
kernel then dies because the kernel is unable to mount the root fs. I
think this bios version may have some anti-hacking "features" in it (bios
version 05/09/2000-VP4-686-IPC_VIAC-00) that prevent the system from
booting from an external HD. I have read some posts discussing ways around
this so there may be hope yet short of replacing the bios (about $16). We
shouldn't need a HD mounted in the system once we can load a kernel into
the sandisk and put on a usb ethernet adapter, but one is needed to load
the sandisk and make it bootable. See ya
Mike
