:: Food Bank Project

Mike brought a CD and one of the test boxes. There are a couple of warts, but it works well enough to demo now and tweak later.

Forest will practice using and abusing the demo box on Thursday and set up a demo for Friday if possible. If the FBNI director signs off on the "proof of concept" demo, we'll refine the spec and go for a second round of development.

Mike thinks it may be better to create our own kiosk distribution based on one of the distros he has experimented with. None of them are easy to modify. Tweak/test cycles slow to a crawl even on a robust dev box.

:: FreeBox

Dale worked on FreeBoxes.

:: Sun Server Donation

Our donor dropped off 6 servers, at least 4 external disk packs (some not all fully loaded) and a fiber optic network backbone switch/hub. The hard discs are ST39102, 10k rpm Seagate Cheetahs.

The donor offered to volunteer for us. He has a large family and cannot attend warehouse or lab sessions, but he can work at home.

:: Inventory Re-Organization

Forest and I worked feverishly. We were able to consolidate printers in two gaylords and computers in gaylords according to CPU class (P1, P2, P3). We removed all the bad drives piling up in the office. We began to reorganize the "server" room and will continue on Thursday. Mike and Dale helped when they could step away from their projects.

On the downside, we only worked on the pallet rack by the office door. If there is time and hoses are not on the floor, we will begin to reorganize another rack segment on Thursday.

The short term plan is to recycle all dot matrix printers in inventory and as many bad monitors as we find.

Otto contacted me regarding 3 pallets of P3 computers from a third party which will be available next week. There is just one open rack space right now. Forest and I will try to open two more spaces so we can accept the offer.
