I asked Craig to send me the specs on the video and nic subsystems before
wiping the drives. Here is his reply.
"The video card used in most of the boxes is a Compaq QVision
2000/2000+ (MGA). The nic is an AMD PCNET Family Ethernet
Adapter (PCI&ISA)."
Most (all?) of these boxes are apparently Compaqs. When the drive is wiped
so is part of the bios. We may not be able to get to the bios to check or
change settings without ordering restore disks.
Also, this particular video subsystem is not well supported in GNU/Linux.
Whoever has recent Knoppix disks, please bring them to lab Tues. We'll see
if Knoppix can detect the vid chip (Matrox?) and configure an X server for
us. Same for nic.

Craig Youngs, from ND Federal Credit Union, called today to prepare for
WipeFest One. The task has fallen on Craig's desk to securely scrub the
donated boxes before we get them. WipeFest One will be held at a NDFCU
branch office (Edison & Main) in the computer training lab. We'll scrub
down 6-8 units in each 2-3 hour Fest. Don't know when the WipeFest One
will occur -- Craig will call me.
