[frgeek-michiana] Re: DSL in lab

The DSL line terminates at the telco block in the maintenance room next to the lab. There is a modem and a router installed. We have to make sure our server plays nice with the router and possible DHCP.

There shouldn't be any issues there.

Nick thinks the DSL service is 3 Mbps incoming and 784 Kbps outgoing. We need to install the CDRW burner in the server next lab and set up the routing. This is an opportunity to teach new tech volunteers about system and network admin. Anybody want to teach?

Setting up dhcp on the server and routing should be pretty easy. (I know, famous last words) Your gonna want a second nic in the server for the DSL connection. The server will handle it as a dhcp client just fine. Then we only need to manually set the gateway address for the server.

Installing the CR-RW should be just as about as easy.... Unless you run into the problem I'm currently having with the IDE-SCSI driver not wanting to work. I'll eventually will get around to fixing that but need a free day to do it. :)

Tom, I am off Tuesday if you need someone to do a barn run with you or something.
