TreePad-related tools, resources and pages



27 new icon libraries created by MieNet for usage in TreePad PLUS, SAFE and 
Business Edition: a collection with nearly 20,000 distinct icons organized 
by themes (such as animals, business and office, flags, shapes, folders, 
calendars and agenda, sports, etc.), which can be freely downloaded in 
either of two formats:
  - ".zip" files containing individual ".ico" files and
  - ".tpz" files (TreePad-compatible icon libraries).

12 of these Libraries are already available on-line. The remaining 
Libraries should be made available shortly, we have been told.

Free script for Python programmers to read and write TreePad Lite files.

New. TreePadExtractor is a freeware Perl script that extracts a single 
record/all records from a TreePad database (.hjt) files. It has been 
particularly designed to extract the data in XML Forms used in the TreePad 
file format 6.x. XML output maybe further formatted/transformed to HTML,

Accessory pane
Added: drag/drop of text from the draftpad directly into the tree  (option

Added: a draftpad pop up menu similar to the article context menu  (option 
unique to TreePad--tm Business Edition)


Backups
Added: one can now specify the maximum count of numbered backups in the 
options screen (menu/view/options).
Improved: in the options screen, the '.bak' files option has been renamed 
to 'safety copy'.


General, miscellaneous
Added: an option to show the full file path+name in the title bar of the 
main window (menu/view/options)
Added: the system-wide shortcut (TreePad activation key) is now remembered 
when you restart TreePad.
Added: all web access menu items (like menu/help/download the latest 
TreePad version) now ask whether or not to access the Internet before 
opening the Web browser.


Import/export
Added: new tree import screen, menu/file/import/into tree
Added: direct import of Internet Explorer Favorites/folders and Windows 
links/folders into the tree (menu/file/import into tree)
Added: menu/insert/links to files now also supports the direct insertion of 
Windows and Internet Explorer shortcuts into the article

Copy/paste
Added: during auto paste the article ruler will blink
Improved: auto save is now disabled during auto paste, as indicated in the 
status bar

Automatic fields (option unique to TreePad--tm Business Edition)
Added: automatic fields. Using menu/insert/field you can insert fields into 
the article which update themselves automatically on print or article 
reload. Currently TreePad Business Edition supports the following field types:
date
time
date+time
the number of pages
the current page number
the previous page number
the next page number
the current paragraph number
the title of the current node
the title of the parent of the current node
the title of the previous or next sibling node
the current file name
the current file path
the current file name + path
Example for the field 'title of current node': when you change the name of 
the current node, that field is automatically updated with the new node 
name every time you print the article, or reload the article.


Search
Added article wildcard search: you can now search the article using ' * '
Improved: article search and article replace dialogs are now conveniently 
merged into a single dialog displaying two tabs (one for search, the other 
for replace)
Added: a number of convenient options to the article search and replace 
dialog box, as follows:
     search article:
           * option for case sensitive
           * search result: counts number of occurrences found
           * start from cursor position
           * previous search texts available in combo box
           * search only whole words
           * check box: "close dialogue when done"
     search-replace:
           * option for case sensitive
           * option for counting the number of replacements made
           * search-replace confirm window remembers position in search
           * search-replace confirm window has 'replace all' button
           * start from cursor position
           * previous search and replace texts available in combo box
           * count number of replacements made
           * replace/search only whole words
           * check box: "close dialogue when done"

Hyperlinks
Added: shortcut for "copy node as hyperlink" (shift+ctrl+k)

Tree
Improved: move node using keyboard shortcuts (shift-down and shift-up) now 
keeps the moved node in view, while scrolling
Improved: most node icons are now displayed transparent
Added: menu/tree/sort/subtree reverse (one level) (option unique to 
TreePad--tm Business Edition)
Added: menu/tree/sort/subtree reverse (all levels) (option unique to

Added: menu/tree/insert/new node from selection, ctrl+shift+alt+J (this 
creates a new node and copies a selected block of text from the article

(this creates a new node and moves a selected block of text from the 
article into the newly created node -- that is, the original selected block

Article formatting and editing
Added: paragraph formatting dialogue can now display centimeters as well as 
inches, depending on the global settings
Improved: the color marker now also marks text that is already selected at 
the moment the marker is activated  (option unique to TreePad--tm Business 
Edition)
Added: left-click on the very left part of the article will now select a 
line. This option can be turned on/off on the Options screen (default is on)
Added: automatic word selection. This option can be turned on/off on the 
Options screen (default is on)  (option unique to TreePad--tm Business Edition)
Added: sort selected block -- lists or paragraphs (menu/edit/sort 
ascending, menu/edit/sort descending)  (option unique to TreePad--tm 
Business Edition)


Added: recursive bullet nesting via indent function, as follows:
normal bullet lists can now include indented normal bullet sub lists,
and these can in turn include further indented normal bullet sub-sub lists,
and so forth;
likewise, number/letter bullet lists can now include
indented number/letter bullet lists, which can
be further indented,
and so forth.
These can be fine-tuned by changing the margin settings on the article 
ruler or on the paragraph format screen displayed via menu/format/paragraph


Added: it is now possible to select text without it becoming color-marked 
if the text-marker is active. Just press the control key while selecting 
the block of text, and it will not be marked  (option unique to TreePad--tm 
Business Edition)


Images
Added: It is now possible to paste from other Word Processors a block of 
text that contains images
Note 1: when exporting a TreePad--tm subtree or article to Web site, 
pasting text and images separately into the article will still achieve the 
best results.
Note 2: this addition does not cover pasting images+text in one go from a 
Web browser -- text and images should be pasted separately, as usual.


General, miscellaneous
Added, for easy access: system-wide TreePad shortcut toolbar in the 
navigate toolbar. With this feature you can define which keyboard key will 
activate TreePad, when it is not the active program or it is minimized to 
system tray.
Added: shortcut shift+alt+O to activate the options screen in one go
Replaced: old installer with a brand-new installer - though TreePad 
installation procedure is simple and swift, we are concerned with rendering 
TreePad a worthwhile companion from the very moment of its installation
Changed: the article tab now displays the word 'Article', whereas the title 
of the selected node/article is shown on the status bar


Tables
Added: menu/table/borders and shading, to define borders and colors of 
individual table cells
Added: menu/table/select table, to select an entire table


Printing
Added to options screen: print mode (default print mode and print mode 2) . 
Should your printer seem incompatible with the default print mode, please 
try print mode 2.
Added to options screen: an option to print or disable printing the page number
Added to tree-related functions: optional, print can apply to checked nodes 
only (feature unique to TreePad--tm Business Edition)


Files
Added: favorites tool button and corresponding menu item (menu/file/favorites)
Added: function to manage favorites list of TreePad files + respective 
settings screen
Added: read-only message when a read only TreePad file is opened
Improved: a read only file cannot be saved directly. To save a read only 
file, you need to 'save as' another file name


Accessory pane
Improved: height of pane separator is now remembered for search pane, 
history pane, bookmarks pane, icons pane, charmap pane, 
individually,  within a session
Improved: if a selected item (in any accessory pane) is out of view, it is 
scrolled in view
Added: shortcut ctrl+F9 'toggles' the accessory pane. When the pane is not 
visible, ctrl+F9 shows the last accessed accessory pane. When the pane is 
visible, ctrl+F9 closes the currently opened accessory pane.
Added: DraftPad pane -- this is an article-independent editor, carrying 
just about all the editing functions used in the article pane, with the 
exclusion of image display
Fixed: icons transparency issue
Improved: character map -- please see below


Character map (option unique to TreePad--tm Business Edition)
Improved: the character map is now accessible from a convenient drop-down 
panel that can be directly accessed from the edit toolbar
Added: option to keep the character map always available or to have it 
close automatically after every character insert
Added: button to close the character map without inserting a character into 
the article
Improved: character map now also supports symbol fonts, such as WingDings


Toolbars
Improved view-toolbar buttons for 'show tree', 'show article' and 'show 
tree and article'.
Improved history back/forward buttons
Improved navigate up/down/left/right buttons
Improved follow hyperlink buttons
Improved hyperlink buttons -- please note that the hyperlink create icon 
now stands beside the hyperlink follow icon
Improved icons for expand/collapse tree
Added: options/settings button on the file toolbar
Improved marker button
Other improvements and additions to the Toolbars are mentioned in the 
sections dealing with the functions that these buttons activate


Date and time
Added: new date/time tool button to the edit menu, including drop-down menu 
with various functions
Added: calendar dialog to insert a user-selected date - menu/insert/date, 
or the date/time tool button on the edit toolbar
Added: keyboard shortcut shift-alt-d. This shortcut brings the calendar 
dialog on screen for insertion of a user-selected date. Please note that 
this function applies both to the tree and to the article.
Expanded: the insert current date functions are now accessed via 
menu/insert/current/date (or time, or date and time)
Added: when the tree has focus, the menu/insert/date and 
menu/insert/current functions insert a date/time into the title of the 
selected node
Added: self-updating date/time fields which function as follows: once 
inserted into the article, these fields automatically change according to 
the current date or time (upon article load, preview and print). This 
function is activated by clicking Menu/insert/field (option unique to 
TreePad--tm Business Edition)


Export/import
Fixed: export of a large subtree to a single RTF file no longer generates 
'garbage' sections
Added: new CSV options to the settings screen: the field separator and text 
qualifier for the imported CSV file can now be custom-specified.
