Pen World

Since I now work where I have to commute 62-miles each way my free time has
become limited. So forgive me if I have "come late to the party."

While I have not seen the new issue of Pen World yet, having heard all the
rumblings about the changes in editorial direction saddens me. This is an
example of yet another magazine I enjoyed morphing into something that quiet
frankly is not responding to the community it is supposed to serve. This
happened with another magazine I liked, CD Review; it was purchased by a
British
publisher and ceased publication in the US. CD Review was an excellent resource

on CDs, equipment and was written so well.

True there are many pen aficionados (hey maybe someone could get Marv
Shanken of Cigar Aficionado to launch a pen mag with that title?) who can
afford
pens in excess of $1,000, the majority of us collectors usually have limits on
our spending which are predicated by the facts of life: kids, mortgages, home
repairs (expected and not), etc. And while such luxury pens are beautiful
they are more for investment than for the enjoyment of the hobby.

If Pen World has decided to target the demographic that purchases luxury
goods, so be it. I will not re-up my subscription. And it will be sad that
something I credit with being a formative factor in my involvement in this
hobby
is no longer a resource. Thankfully we have Stylus and Zoss, fptalk and
Pentrace. Maybe I will even join the PCA.
