Jonathan Donahaye - an appreciation
In the world of pen collecting, there are many enthusiasts who specialise in
one name-brand, and that was certainly true of Jonathan Donahaye.
Born in 1935, Jonathan was a highly skilled and internationally-known
entomologist, as well as having a passion for Conway Stewart pens,
Helped by his brother, Daniel, he amassed what must have been one of the
most comprehensive Conway Stewart collections anywhere in the world. And
then, having acquired all those pieces, he went one step further, and not
only
methodically catalogued them, but also created a comprehensive website with
information about measurements, history, as well as including photographs,
not just from his own collection, but from other sources as well.
To many of us, this was a mine of readily available information, and
something that we took for granted would always be there. Indeed, it was
sometimes referred to in auction catalogues as 'the Donahaye listing'.
Recently, Jonathan had begun to sell his collection, and most of the
signatories here been able to enrich their own collections with several of
his
items - items we probably would not have been able to acquire from
elsewhere.
With Jonathan's passing, we send our sympathy to his family, and everyone
else who mourns his loss.
