[foxboro] icc2html open source project status

Dear List,

We now have an Open Source project set up at sourceforge.net for the
icc2html project(Yea!). I have the source from Pedro. But I have not
uploaded any files yet (Boo). That is because we need to answer some
questions first. Here is my vision--I am describing it so it can be
modified with suggestions from the group. If you want to see what it looks
like, go to http://sourceforge.net and do a search for icc2html. (There is
nothing there yet, but you get the idea)

The project itself has two types of people 1)developers, who change code
and 2) administrators, who decide who the developers are. (There is no
category for users because anybody can download the "released" files.) The
sourceforge project has its own mail list and project web site (I have not
uploaded anything there yet) and stuff. This would be primarily used for
developer-developer communications. There is a spot there for users to
enter feature requests, bug tracking, etc.

Initially I have some questions as to the feature set. I would like to
gather some initial feature requests on this list. Question #1 Should we
keep feature requests on this list or eventually move them to the
sourceforge site? Most of the implementations are a hyperlinked version of
the iccprt output displayed in frames to make navigation easy. I had
envisioned more of a detail-display interface with HTML templates (similar
to detail displays) being shown. The nice thing about the hyperlinked
iccptr file is that new parameters come out of the file automatically and
do not require any (much) updating of the code. The problem with HTML
templates (and as I write this, I am becoming convinced this is their fatal
flaw) is they need updating as new blocks and block parameters are
introduced. Q #2 What should this look like?

What about installability? Q #3 Does the thing need to run with a minimum
of extra baggage? or will users tolerate installing perl and whatever else
to make it work?

Somebody send a feature request to the project at sourceforge.net, I want
to see what happens.

We will probably need a few more developers. We will need testers to run
on various versions and someone to integrate the packaging/setup of the
whole thing. Any volunteers?
