Hafedh,
We've been using OSI PI for over 10 years now, and never had any serious =
problem. We have always used the standard data collector running on an =
AW. It buffers data locally when connection to the PI server is lost, =
and the only limit there is your drive capacity: all data is recovered =
afterwards. As for hardware requirements, we have one intarfase running =
on an AW51A (believe it or not) with 48 MB of ram, shared with a 1000 =
points historian, and collecting 2500+ points once per minute. I guess =
that's as low as you can go. On the other side, we have an AW51D with =
128MB and 1000 points historian and almost 6000 PI points collecting =
once per minute - still pushing the limits.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Mart=EDn

Alex,
I remember the attached discussion we made in 2004 about installing the =
OSI's PI system.
This project was approved to be installed in our Plant.=20
We are actually in the basic design stage of installing the OSI's PI =
system.
We prefer to use OPC to connect the OSI PI system to the IA foxboro =
system. However, we do not like to overload our system CP60's, AW51E..) =
Could you please advise the best way to connect.=20
Please be informed that our AIM historian V3.2 is installed on AW51E =
(V6.1.1, soalaris 5.5.1).
Do you think we need to use the existing AIM collector or the standard =
OSI PI data collector.
What software shall we install in the AW51E ?
Thanks to respond.
Regards
Hafedh

I'm afraid that I don't understand the question.
If you are asking me if OSI's PI is a useful product, the answer is, "It =
must be because a large number of people use it and seem to be happy =
users at that."
If you are asking me if the AIM*OPC Server should be used with OSI's PI, =
my answer is, "You may use it, but I prefer the standard OSI PI data =
collector for the I/A Series because it buffers the data on the AW in =
the event of a network failure."
If you are asking me if AIM*AT Suite is sufficient to your needs, I can =
only say that, "There are a number of customer who have only AIM*AT =
Suite and do not have PI and seem to be happy with what what it does."
If you are asking me if AIM*DataLink can be used with PI Client =
applications, the answer is, "If the application can use DDE, it can =
work with AIM*DataLink."
If you are asking me if I prefer AIM*DataLink or the AIM*OPC Server, my =
answer would be, "It depends on the client. If the client supports both =
DDE and OPC, I'd go with OPC since it is widely used with many other =
client applications."
Did I come anywhere near your question?
Regards,
AJ
