The classic tool for doing this general case (automating things that were
only eery intended to be done by hand) is expect. You can get it (and it's
prerequisites) from the Sunfreeware site. We use it a good bit.

You can get a "first cut"at a working script by using "autexpect" which
"learns" what you are doing as you do it once. This creates a script which,
with a little hand work, will automate that function for you.
