I've attached some notes I have on how to use snapshot. We use it all the
time to create TIF files for importing into Word.
Hope this helps,
Following is a procedure to make snapshots of Unix displays in a format that
can be inserted into documents such as Word. The procedure assumes that you
will save the snapshots to diskette for transfer to another machine, but
they can also be saved into a directory of the station where taken, for
electronic transfer.
1. In VT100 or Command Tool on the Unix station go to the /opt directory.
cd /opt
2. Insert a dos-formatted diskette to receive the snapshots and mount it.
mount /pcfs
3. Start the Sun "snapshot" utility as a background task.
/usr/openwin/bin/snapshot &
A snapshot window appears after a brief delay.
4. In the snapshot window pick "Hide Window During Capture" so the snapshot
window does not appear in your snapshot. The Snap Delay will automatically
go to 8 seconds.
Optionally pick "Beep During Countdown" for audible indication that it is
working while taking the snapshot.
Pick the Snap Type that you want to snap; Window, Region or Screen.
5. Pick Snap.
The prompt asks you to select the area to snap.
If a window, pick any point in the window and the snap begins.
If a region, lassoo the region using the left mouse button. When correctly
lassoed, use the center mouse button to start the snap.
The snap window disappears while the snapshot is taken. On completion, a
file named snapshot.rs is placed in the directory where you started the
snapshot utility, and the snapshot window reappears.
6. Select View to see the snapshot. Sometimes you'll see the picture;
sometimes just a black screen, but don't be dismayed.
7. To save the snapshot to your dos diskette, select the File button then
the SaveAs menu button to get the Save As window.
8. Pick the TIFF format (If Sun Raster is already selected, pick it first;
if you don't the TIFF pick doesn't take.)
9. Set the Go To path to /pcfs.
10. Set the Save As file name to the desired name for your dos file (8.3
format. Use .tif extension for Word to recognize the file format.)
11. Pick Save , and your snapshot is saved to diskette.
12. From the arrow at top left, quit the View application.
13. Repeat 5-12 for the pictures you want.
14. After you have saved your last picture, open the View, SaveAs window and
change the Go To path to /opt. This releases the /pcfs directory to allow
you to unmount the diskette.
15. Quit the View window and the snapshot window.
16. Check that your diskette has all the pictures you saved, then unmount
and eject your diskette.
ls /pcfs
umount /pcfs
eject

Please respond to foxboro
hi,
Make an executable script and use dmcmd command to print screen. (dmcmd =
psc)
in your cron, call at your time the script.
/usr/local/pref -XXAW01 DMCMD "dmcmd psc"
it works for me every day for many years.
