Re: [foxboro] mounting a remote tape drive for backup purposes

Thanks for the suggestion Alex. It works great!
This is such a simple solution! Much easier than moving a tape drive
around, or purchasing numerous tape drives.

If you have your WPs and AWs connected with a 2nd network, you could run
the
traffic over that network instead.

Just add the 2nd Ethernet name to /.rhosts and use it as the machine name.

Having the machines tied together using the 2nd Ethernet port is -
generally
speaking - a good thing to do.

Make sure the logical name is in the /.rhosts file, then
from
usr/local of the WP do a wpdmp0_8MM <Awname>.
I have several very large nodes some running 60+ stations
and I
have experienced Fault tolerant CP's going single
during remote backups because of the node buss traffic,
for this
reason I have added tape drives not to every WP but
to each type of WP (ie. WPA's, WPB's, WPD's etc.)

Hi list,

the setup in our plant is as follows. We're running 5 nodes with 5
AW51's and 9 WP's attached to it.=20
The AW's do have external tape drives, the WP's don't. In order to do a
full backup of a WP we connected one of the AW tape drives to the WP and
boot the WP from cdrom.=20
Questions:=20
Is it possible to fully backup a WP on a tape drive what is connected to
an AW? - without booting the WP from cdrom How can i make the AW tape
drive seeable from WP? Will this backup process (through network) slow
down the machine too much?
