Hello Paride,
first of all thanks for quick response. So, here are my observations.
I downloaded and installed the QF991274c scripts and entered the commands you
sent me. What i got after starting the backup script were the following
messages:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Enter station type: - i entered "WP" because i want to backup a WP
Setting up default device parameters
Remote backup assumes default parameter setup
Can't determine remote tape device
/usr/local/backup aborting
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Additionally i've started the find_tape script, but it told me that it cannot
find a tape device either.
Questions: (1) What is meant by "<AWletterbug_w/streamer>"? I just
used the AW letterbug because i
don't know to what device (you wrote streamer)
i should refer to.
(2) Should the find_tape script be able to detect a tape
device after i entered the
mount..,trap..,trap..,mac_daemon.. - commmands?
(3) What does those commands accomplish? I've never seen a
Filesystem "vfox" in the mount command?
Best Regards
Rocco

Try this (as our guru Alex often says):
1 You have to include AW/WP letterbug in the /.rhosts files of AW/WP.
2 Use quick fix 991274c scripts for backup/restore
3 Shutdown to single user mode the WP=20
4 on the WP: #sh <ctrl>
#mount -F vfox /foxboro /dev/foxboro <ctrl>
#trap "" 16 <ctrl>
#trap "" 17 <ctrl>
#/usr/fox/exten/mac_daemon /dev/le 0 1 > /dev/null & =
<ctrl>
(/dev/hme if style D or style E)
#/usr/local/backup <AWletterbug_w/streamer>=20
The AW data/bus will be "loaded" by data flow but not "overloaded".
bye=20

Subject: [foxboro] mounting a remote tape drive for backup purposes
Hi list,
the setup in our plant is as follows. We're running 5 nodes with 5 =
AW51's
and 9 WP's attached to it.=20
The AW's do have external tape drives, the WP's don't. In order to do a =
full
backup of a WP we connected one of the AW tape drives to the WP and =
boot the
WP from cdrom.=20
Questions:=20
Is it possible to fully backup a WP on a tape drive what is connected =
to an
AW? - without booting the WP from cdrom
How can i make the AW tape drive seeable from WP?
Will this backup process (through network) slow down the machine too =
much?
