Re: [foxboro] learning Sun Microsystems workstations

Sun has a system admin "portal" for Solaris at
http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/. I've found good docs there in the past.
As for general Unix networking, there is a lot of stuff on the Internet; I
usually just end up Googling for specific topics. The Unix man pages are
good resources as well. And if you can't get your hands on a Sun box,
grab a copy of Linux or one of the BSDs and set it up on some old PC (or
VMware sessions) you have; there's nothing better than hands-on for
learning this stuff. Note that some of the Unix networking protocols
(e.g., NFS) require extra software (Microsoft's now-free Services for
Unix, other commercial products) on Windows, and some of the Windows
protocols (e.g., SMB/CIFS) require extra software (Samba) on Unix.

Enjoy your "journey",

Hi everybody,
I have been recently told that I have to learn as much as I can about Sun
Microsystems workstations and servers. I need to learn Unix as well as how
Windows systems can connect to these Sun workstations. I know how to
network with Microsoft, and I just started to learn about Unix. If anyone
can help point me in the right direction, the help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim Crocker
