I could be way off here, but sometimes FoxDraw's utilities that 
manipulate .g files have problems with display names that start with 
numbers.  They prepend a FOX_ to the display names.  Some stuff seems 
aware of this, other stuff doesn't.  You might try renaming the 
display X_31AIC124.fdf and re-running your script just to see what 
happens.  Also you could try using fdf_g then manipulate the .g file 
afterward run g_fdf to put it back together.  I have had better luck 
with these and sed whenever I'm making scripted display changes.
