OK, now that Joe Riccardi has come out of the closet, I guess I can stick
my nose out a little further, too.
I fully agree with his comments on FoxRay. I recently had to leave a
young engineer with only a few weeks of intensive training with me in charge of
configs and apps on a large IA system, Mesh and Unix. I was able to
convince them before I left to first see the demo and then purchase FoxRay on a
trial basis. In these times of economic duress, they were able to justify
it on a SAFETY basis and even spread out the payments. They are delighted
with it and keep e-mailing me how they were able to solve this problem and
attack that problem through FoxRay. In short, I think it is a great tool
and wish I had had it years earlier.
I'll stick my nose out a little further. Invensys is sort of "in bed"
with PAS on Integrity, so I'll probably get banned from the list for the
following: I participated in the final validation test for PAS as an
independent, 3rd party evaluator with lots of IA experience. On the positive
side, I
agree with Alex, that if you have multiple DCS systems to deal with, it is
a more universal tool. That said, if IA is your baby, FoxRay is hands
down the way to go. It is built only for IA and doesn't pretend to be a
universal tool over many platforms. But when it comes to IA and dedicated
support, FoxRay can't be beat in my humble opinion. I won't go into a feature
by feature blowout (nor dare I expand into any detail on what I've said
above) - see the demo and even try it out for free, but I warn you, you'll get
addicted. Now if I could only get Limeware to pay me for these plugs...
