Didn't know Foxboro had an "autocheckpoint" facility when I created my own. I
don't necessarily agree that checkpointing should be done at fixed intervals
with no operator intervention. I set mine up so that a graphic prompt comes up
for each operating unit (one or more related CP's) once per shift and allows
the operator to OK or ABORT the checkpoint. That way upsets are not preserved
in the checkpoint file and normal operating parameters are saved when the
operator gives an OK during normal operations.
