Seriously, Dirk. I think you'll find superior performance in your batch
processes from Coriolis meters compared to your load cells. (Did I mention
we use Micromotion meters?) We're upgrading our batch unit DCS to 8.x and
200 series I/O (from Spectrum migration and 100 series) and in the process
replacing milliamp signals from our Micromotion meters with frequency or
pulse signals.

Ditto. This seems a peculiar question.

Yes, there are lots of flow meters that operate with a 4-20 mA signal
and
HART protocol on top of that. There's not much point in a flow
transmitter
that doesn't interface with a standard type of signal. Perhaps you're
looking at a turbine or Coriolis type meter. We use a lot of Coriolis
(Micromotion brand) meters, that provide configurable signals, both
frequency and 4-20 mA HART. We control batch and continuous processes
with
them, and we make liberal use of the temperature and density
measurements
that are provided to estimate composition. We're using them in 2 inch
pipe
as well as smaller and larger sizes.

I'm sure your Invensys IPS account manager could offer a full line of
compatible flow transmitters, and the I/O cards to match.

This seems strange, we have many many flow meters, all the name brands
typically do either 4-20mA, pulse or both (configurable).
I have never encountered a "quality" meter that would not do 4-20mA.

What type of flow meter technology are you looking at?
Magnetic, DP, Vortex, Thermal, etc...

Hi guys,

Just wondering if any of you are using flowmeters in your piping and
which type you have good experiences with. We're thinking on installing
a Flowmeter in an oil header. We haven't got flowmeters for the moment,
our products usually are not suited for flowmeters. Except for the oil
headers.
We usually work with loadcells but for this project we would need a
flowtransmitter.
Problem seems to be these flowmeters don't transmit 4-20 ma but pulses.
Our DCS can't handle the number of pulses per second, so we'll need a
seperate controller. Are there any flowmeters (2" pipe) that transmit
4-20ma?
