Re: [foxboro] dmp0_8MM script on AW51E

Hi John,

  I feel your pain!

  When I set up an AW51E I had the same problem. I edited my S99FOXBORO
file to link rst9 to rst28 instead of 29 to get it to work. I later found a
better way of dealing with this but never implemented it.

Here are my linkages:

2CCAW3# ls -l /dev/rst*
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root           9 Mar 30  2001 /dev/rst0 -> /dev/rst4
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root           7 Mar 30  2001 /dev/rst12 -> rmt/0mb
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root           7 Mar 30  2001 /dev/rst20 -> rmt/0hb
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root           7 Mar 30  2001 /dev/rst28 -> rmt/0cb
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root           7 Mar 30  2001 /dev/rst4 -> rmt/0lb
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root          10 Apr  4  2001 /dev/rst9 ->
/dev/rst28
2CCAW3# ls -l /dev/nrst*
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root          10 Mar 30  2001 /dev/nrst0 ->
/dev/nrst4
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root           8 Mar 30  2001 /dev/nrst12 ->
rmt/0mbn
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root           8 Mar 30  2001 /dev/nrst20 ->
rmt/0hbn
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root           8 Mar 30  2001 /dev/nrst28 ->
rmt/0cbn
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root           8 Mar 30  2001 /dev/nrst4 -> rmt/0lbn
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root          11 Apr  4  2001 /dev/nrst9 ->
/dev/nrst28

Subject: [foxboro] dmp0_8MM script on AW51E

We recently upgraded our AW51B to an AW51E. I went to do a tape backup and
following the procedure that we have been using for years, got to the step
that checks for rst9 in the /dev directory. It wasn't there so I did a boot
-r. When the box came back up I checked the /dev directory to see if the
device file was there and it still wasn't there.

Checked my FoxDoc CD and noticed that on both D & E boxes that there were 4
devices listed for tape backups: rst0, rst9, rst29, and rst36. The only
one that was in my directory was rst36. Tried running
/usr/local/add_periphs script and it still didn't add rst9.

Tried running mt -f /dev/rstX status on all of the rst entries in the /dev
directory and about half of them returned a response saying that they
reconized a 4mm tape including rst36. Is there something about the E box
that it won't create rst9 or am I going to have to hack the dmp0_8MM script
to use a different rst device.
