Re: [foxboro] dial-in to 51 series box?

Jason,

Re: Information
Check out the FoxRemote manual on FoxDoc or the web site. It has useful
information. You could also use the FoxRemote Configuration 3 equipment for
dial-up lines.

Re: X compression
The version of X windows that we run is release 5. It doesn't have the
lightweight X support that comes in release 6. For that and other reasons,
we use GoGlobal from GraphOn for PCs over dial-ups as opposed to Exceed
which requires lightweight X on the server.

In short, you won't get compression and the displays might be sluggish.

My question to you is do you really want and need dial-up lines?

If you can lease a dedicated line, you can get excellent performance using
straight out of the box without compression. There are so many offerings
today: dedicated analog lines, ISDN, digital leased lines, DSL, ADSL, cable,
etc that dialup seems to be a very unattractive option.

We're looking at remote acces to an AW51x [x=B,D,E, or whatever
alphabet
soup they're up to now ;)] from another unix box. The most natural
way to
do this seems to hang a modem off the AW, and set up a dial-up
account.
Does anyone have either pointers to the "how to" descriptions, and
the
"gotcha" list. Or, does anyone have a better way of doing this? In
my
naivete, I've assumed that dial-up ppp with X protocol compression
was the
way to go, but I'm open to suggestions.

        Cheers

        Jason
