Re: [foxboro] client server

Re: New System

InFusion is not a new DCS. It is something different we call and ECS
(Enterprise Control System).

The I/A Series is still our DCS, but you do gain some more options
thanks to InFusion. For example, you have a choice of HMI - InFusion
View (InTouch) or FoxView. Lots of folks have InTouch already and
love/like it and we have been crazy not to offer this before.

As we progress InFusion, you'll gain a choice of historians for use with
FoxView - InFusion Historian (InSQL) or AIM*Historian.

The InFusion Engineering Environment is our mainline configuration tool
going forward.

SMDH is replaced with SystemManager which looks a lot better, but does
much the same thing, i.e., represent System Monitor messages and
equipment states.

InFusion ECS is really something beyond a DCS. It's intended to augment
any control system. Something like this:

InFusion ECS =3D CS + ArchestrA tech/apps + Industry Solutions

Where:
CS =3D DCS | SIS | SCADA | PLC | whatever
ArchestrA Apps =3D InFusion View, InFusion Historian, InFusion Engineering
Env, =

                 InFusion Application Environment
Industry Solutions =3D packages of products and services that work
independently of the CS and are - generally - deployed using the
InFusion Application Environment.

Admittedly, we have to demonstrate this to everyone's satisfaction, but
we are working on it.

Re: I would love to be able to get a report on a "tag" (whatever that
means to the new system) that shows everywhere it is used, if it is
historized, and what displays it is on. =

Got it.

Re: Marketing materials
There is lots of XML in InFusion (or more accurately in some InFusion
applications), but it is not the core communication mechanism. I don't
see anything in the material your copied (thanks) that says it is.

Perhaps my understanding is lacking. It wouldn't
be the first time. Also keep in mind that most
of us on this list are coming at this from the
current C:B.P , DM or FoxView frame of reference
and we might not have adequate understanding of
the new system to know what we would like. I
would love to be able to get a report on a "tag"
(whatever that means to the new system) that
shows everywhere it is used, if it is historized,
and what displays it is on. If the tool is SQL
or XML doesn't matter much to me. ASCII is going
to be cumbersome for maintaining that kind of information.

Seems Archestra and XML are frequently mentioned
in the same breath in press releases. And there
are a lot of easy ways to import XML into existing products like excel.

Here are a few of the top hits when I google Archestra and XML.

Generally, the new integration architectures also
support eXtensible markup language (XML) and Web
services. Under the Web services concept,
self-describing chunks of software, leveraging
XML and other Internet standards and protocols,
are used to facilitate the sharing of data between disparate systems.
