First of all, thank you, Alex, for wanting our input. =20

I keep forgetting that we are talking about a report format and not
real-time access to the control database.  (Am I wrong about that?  We
are in a shutdown here and I am not giving this thread my full
attention.)  Given that it is a report, what can I do with an SQL table
that I cannot do with an Excel spreadsheet?  To the SQL queries I have
written (not that many), the difference is practically invisible and I
can make it go away altogether by just importing the data into a table,
if I really really want it there.  I presume that something similar is
true about XML.  As long as the data does not show up as Delimited
ASCII, I don't see much difference between the other three choices.  It
seems to me now that the spreadsheet--being a simpler format--may have a
slight edge.  That edge would be that it is the common ground between
SQL and XML.  Either of the two formats can pull the data without manual
intervention.  Am I missing something?
