Re: [foxboro] XP running an executable program in an Unix Sun Box

Does the XP box even come with an rsh client? I think Exceed had one, but
it is an old Exceed on our 7.1.3 box and we found that tha rshd server did
not work.

In general, we found interoperability at a scripting/shell level between
our AW70 and the rest of our 51s to be poor to nonexistent out of the box.
We had to use 3rd-party software (mostly open source Windows ports,
thankfully) or roll several of our own tools to perform some of the normal
system admin tasks we've been doing for years with standard software on
the Suns. It is one of the reasons I have held off buying any more
Windows I/A boxes.

[foxboro] XP running an executable program in an Unix Sun Box

Hi guys,

We are in the process of adding some XP workstations to an existing V6.5.2
Unix system. We have a problem getting a button, which runs a dmcmd, to
work on the XP platform. The button, which works fine on the Unix FoxView
platform.

run rsh -n A1AW01 /opt/foxind/etsa/pcalc/bin/demand 2 >
/var/tmp/demand.log

A1AW01 is a 51B workstation. "demand" is an Sun Sparc executable file.

Is there some variation of the syntax that will enable this command to be
launched by the a button on the XP platform?
