This is the standard behavior. It dates back to the original development of
the I/A Series.
For those too young to remember, GEMS was a GUI for DOS way before windows
existed. We copied a lot of its stylistic touches with the I/A Series HMI. I
assume this is one of those touches.

Subject: Re: [foxboro] XP AW70 arrow key problem update
Well, I tried installing Exceed 7.1.1 on my XP AW70, to see if it fixed
the arrow key problems. The picks now highlight properly, and I can see
where the cursor is. The arrow keys still don't work unless I hold down
Shift, but at least they don't type numbers instead.
However, this last problem does not rest with Exceed. I invoked ICC from
an AW51 and displayed it on the AW70, and everything worked fine. I then
ran ICC on the AW70 and displayed it on the AW51, and the AW51's arrow
keys don't work, either. I hastily conclude that something got screwed up
in the Windows port of the XHI/X-window stuff. Like I said, it's a work
in progress....
If I can figure out what keycodes the arrow keys send when Shift is held
down, I can probably remap the keyboard to work around this. If Foxboro
would do this, or fix the Windows ICC so that arrow keys work properly, it
would be even better.
