Chuck- Nobody at T&L has dirty boots...never seen it! Dave Coyle Synergy Systems, Inc. From: foxboro-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:foxboro-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jones, Charles R. (Chuck) Sent: Thursday, March 24, 2011 9:04 AM To: foxboro@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [foxboro] Windsnows Question "the only solution is locking the processor in a cabinet" "Besides the lockable cabinet can have air filtration equipment installed to eliminate some of our wonderful environmental concerns." -- and extra cooling fans, too. This is the way we installed our Solaris boxes. I have often wondered why we accept putting the Windows boxes on the desktop--or worse, underneath the desk. Putting the workstation computers into a controlled environment, even if it is an enclosed rack in the back of the control room protects them from a lot of abuse they would receive if sitting on the desktop. The coffee spills alone are a hazard. Dropped tools are even worse. I've never seen it (yeah, right) but it is rumored that on nights and weekends operators prop up their dirty work boots on the desktop. I just wanted to save money on replacing/repairing the workstations. The physical security is an added bonus.
