Re: [foxboro] Windoze

That's good to know as I am a decent CAE user.
I am using FoxView so hopefully going to FoxView on the XP Server won't
be too big of an issue.
Thanks
Troy

We used Foxcae 5.1 to get data base information converted from Unix to =
=3D
Windows. No, real issues found. We were not experienced Foxcae users and
=3D
were able to make it happen.

I received training in Houston between the two conversions. I took a =
=3D
class on System Maintenance. It was a shortened class for other reason =
=3D
but I still think there could be a class directly related to Unix to =3D
Windows conversions. There might be one in the works I don't know. If =
=3D
this (Windows) is the way Foxboro is going maybe there would be a market
=3D
for this. I would expect the conversion help need to last 5-7 years =3D
anyway. I think a one week class could satisfy the needs of most =3D
companies concerns.=3D20

The area of largest headache seemed to be converting displays. We went
=3D
from 4.3 to 8.1 on one Unit and 4.3 to 8.3 on the second Unit. Foxboro =
=3D
provided us with tips on converting displays. There are more than one =
=3D
or two traps. We were coming from such a older OS that you may not =3D
experience the same issues. We had Foxboro Service assist in the first
=3D
conversion but, converted Unit 2 ourselves. I think what I am trying to
=3D
say is it's like everything else the 1st attempt into the unknown is =3D
concerning and sometimes difficult. The second time around was so much
=3D
easier. Going in you don't know what you don't know. The second time =
=3D
in you get the feeling I can figure out the unknown out much =3D
consequences. We learned to wipe and start over many times. That is =
=3D
not a bad thing you know. We now are prepared for worst case scenarios.

We had questions on proper switch setup. These were resolved via phone =
=3D
calls.
good luck=3D20

All knowing list,

I am preparing to upgrade a UNIX 6.5.4 system from the "Dog Boxes" to
Windoze.

I understand that the "loop ID" is critical and we are in good shape
there.

Is there a document that addresses the how to migrate?

If anyone has done this can you give me a heads up on problems and
issues that I am going to run into.

Thanks
