Re: [foxboro] What's Missing from Windows I/A (was Operating System Updates)

Here's my list from memory:

1. Arrow keys in ICC don't work unless you hold down Shift. The cursor
does not show up, nor does the box around the selected data field, so you
have no idea where you are until you start typing.

2. The NT AW70 I have locks up every two months. It's a freeze, not a
blue screen, so it does not automatically reboot and come back online.
We've been preemptively rebooting it more frequently to avoid the issue.
I'm hoping our new XP AW70 cures this problem.

3. No apparent provision to configure the embedded CP on it from another
station (e.g., an AW51). I tried setting this up, but the rsh daemon that
comes with Exceed did not work. And the Exceed help files (that's the
only documentation I've found) aren't any.

4. No apparent provision to copy blocks/compounds from a CP/volume hosted
by another station (an AW51 in my case), but I don't know if this is true
in general for CPs on different hosts or not.

5. Due to lack of aforementioned rsh daemon, no way to invoke actions on
the AW70 from scripts on the AW51, as I easily do with all my other 51
boxes. I was going to get around this by installing OpenSSH on the AW70,
but I've been advised not to install the Cygwin Unix services package on
the AW70 (apparently due to adverse interaction with the MKS stuff), and
OpenSSH depends on that. I may try it anyway, however.

And those are just the major items that hinder me in working on the thing.
There are other things (the old Exceed version, the Windows shutdown
issue, the security problems in using a well-known account and password to
run everything, etc. etc.) that are issues, but don't get in my way daily
or otherwise are more minor. We don't use it as an operator console, so I
don't know what issues lurk there.

I wouldn't have bought the thing if I hadn't needed the OPC functionality,
or if Foxboro had had their OPC FBM for sale. The OPC I/O gate, however,
does work well.

1) I/A on Windows restricts ICC access to CPs hosted by the local machine.

2) I/A on Windows restricts ICC access to CPs hosted by the local machine.

3) I/A on Windows restricts ICC access to CPs hosted by the local machine.
