Re: [foxboro] VNC - VPN Setup was IP routing/mapping

Ashley et. al.
You may be interested in the topic I wrote for the LTSP Wiki. It takes
you through setting up a Linux server to allow multiple client connections.

http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/VNC

We have a Sun Opteron V20z server with 2GB RAM running x86_64 Fedora
Core. Normal working it has 40+ simultaneous VNC sessions. Most of these
sessions have Foxboro display managers in them.

I run OLWM on the server so that it looks like the Foxboro Workstations.
It has little memory impact. As you can see, the machine has never even
had to page after 234 days of operation.

[dbond@ltssrv02 dbond]$ uptime
 11:30:20 up 234 days, 17:56, 126 users, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00

[dbond@ltssrv02 dbond]$ free
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 2062684 853004 1209680 0 206836 320096
-/+ buffers/cache: 326072 1736612
Swap: 3068404 0 3068404

The VNC server is best to use an old Version 3 server as it supports
backing store so the configurator buttons work. The lastest Xorg X
Servers do not support backing store.
The V3 VNC server can be hard to track down.

Regards
Darryl
